Cultural Capital at Merefield School
At Merefield School, we believe that cultural capital is about providing our pupils with the power of choice, the confidence to explore, and the foundation to lead a fulfilling life. For our learners, cultural capital is not just about academic knowledge; it is about “learning for life” through a wealth of lived experiences that broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of the world around them.
Our bespoke curriculum is designed to break down barriers, ensuring every student has access to the arts, community participation, and diverse cultural traditions. By embedding these opportunities into daily school life, we empower our pupils to develop the social and emotional literacy needed to navigate society with independence and pride.
The Merefield “40 Things” Accreditation
A cornerstone of our approach is our unique accreditation: “40 Things to Do Before Leaving Merefield.” Developed in partnership with ASDAN, this initiative ensures that our students don’t just learn in the classroom—they learn through doing.
From catching a bus and visiting a café to experiencing live theatre or tending a garden, these 40 milestones are carefully curated to build resilience and essential life skills. By the time our students transition to their next chapter, they carry with them a portfolio of achievements that celebrate their unique journeys and the cultural experiences that have shaped them.
